If you’ve lost a significant amount of weight, you may be experiencing loose or stretched-out skin around your thighs and buttocks. Aging can also cause sagging in your inner or outer thigh. A thigh and buttock lift performed by Dr. Brian Joseph at Park Avenue Plastic Surgery & Spa in Orlando, FL, can help reshape your thighs and buttocks by reducing excess skin, and in some cases, fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of your thighs and lower body.
What it won’t do
It is important to note that a thigh and buttock lift is not intended solely for fat removal. Liposuction alone can remove excess fat deposits in places where the skin has good elasticity and is able to conform to new body contours naturally. In cases where your skin’s elasticity is poor, a liposuction and thigh lift procedure may be the most effective.
If, however, your inner thighs are very big and have a lot of fatty tissue, it might be best to first undergo a liposuction procedure to remove as much excess tissue as possible. The inner thigh can be re-evaluated at a later date to determine if a thigh lift is necessary.
Thigh and buttock lift procedure
A thigh and buttock lift is performed under general anesthesia, which takes about two hours. Dr. Joseph will make an inconspicuous incision at your groin beneath your bikini line. He will loosen the tissues below your bikini line, pull them up and sew the edges together. He will secure deep stitches to the deep tissues so there is less of a chance for your poor scarring. For some thigh lifts, an incision is made from the inner groin area to the knee area on the inner side of your thigh, and the skin is removed. The resultant scar extends from the groin area to the knee on the inner side of your thigh.
Thigh and buttock lift recovery
Drains will often be used for several days and will be removed from the office. You will also be required to wear dressings and a light compression garment for several weeks following surgery. Pain associated with a thigh lift is generally minimal and should subside by the second or third day. Swelling can be mild to moderate during the first week—it should start to disappear afterward. Minimal bruising and swelling are common. You should give yourself a full week off work to recover.
You are a good candidate for thigh lift surgery if you:
- Have relatively stable weight
- Have excess soft tissue along the inner or medial thigh region and/or the outer thigh
- Do not have medical conditions that can impair healing or increase the risk of surgery
- Do not smoke smokers
- Have a positive outlook and realistic goals for what thigh lift surgery can accomplish
- Are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle including proper nutrition and fitness
